We are here. The world is all around us, each of us. The world is more than human. Now is a good time to notice this. For those of us who are not dealing with immediate crises, these times of social distancing provide the opportunity to explore our inner worlds, and our presence in the world around us.

When imaginal expression is viewed as a form of communication with an Other (meaning “not-self,” or “that which I don’t identify as me”) whose nature is unknown, the “conversation” can be fruitful while the source remains obscure, just as a conversation with any stranger.

Just as shadows bring definition to light, a touch of bitterness makes the sweetness all the more delicious. Extending the dynamic range of our feelings allows us to cherish life all the more.

For Ray, it was true: he built it, and they DID come—and it was his intuitive message, after all, not ours. It doesn’t necessarily apply to everyone. But, at the very least, we can say, “If you don’t build it, they’re probably not gonna come.”

Any costume is a persona: a mask we wear to face the world–-–a necessary interface that protects our vulnerabilities and our privacy, while giving others a sense of the role we are playing, what we stand for, and what to expect from us. Perhaps you can’t judge a book by its cover, but you have to start somewhere. A cosmic costume party is a great way to go!

Endless Exquisite Pattern: A Fascinating Pastime for Young and Old. This game seems to reflect the idea that, although we all connect to each other through the ways we are the same, we enrich the community by sharing our uniqueness.

Prayer flags demonstrate belief that we are a part of the world that holds us; that our actions—including our intentions—have effects; and that there are simple ways for us to communicate with the trans-human world.

Each one of us—every single one—is like others and different from others. We can celebrate that experience in the spaciousness of the third. Where we don’t have to choose between being either alike or different, we can be both.

Between alike and different, between you and me, between experience and the unknown, metaphor is a bridge.
