Imagine The Mythos-Sphere

Imagine the Mythos-Sphere as a space of possibility, where we use the play of imagination to explore and discover the relationships between intuition and intellect. Situating ourselves in place. Listening and speaking with awareness. Contemplating metaphors and symbols. Opening ourselves to be poets, artists, and seers. Working creatively together, sharing materials and ideas, using head, heart and hands, we build new forms that help us understand each other and ourselves.

I imagine the Mythos-Sphere as an antidote to an over-reliance on logic and the abstraction of intellect. Logic follows Aristotle’s principle of non-contradiction: a thing cannot both be and not be at the same time. Yet, a metaphor may be deeply true and not literally true. When a seed is becoming a flower, the flower is both here and not here. When a thing is imagined, that thing both is and is not. While the principle of non-contradiction holds true for mathematical and scientific purposes—for factual statements—it does not hold true for all forms of disclosure. Obsessively focused on counting, measuring and puzzle-solving, we may miss the bigger picture. What is lost when a culture forgets the importance of imagination, mystery and the unknown?

Imagination isn’t simply “an escape from reality”—it’s much more fundamental to the experience of life. Imagination is what holds everything together. Imagination is where reality is born. Let’s pay attention to this simple truth. Let’s be involved with what we’re creating. Mythos-Sphere is all about bringing people together to participate in the joy and discovery of creative expression. I imagine the Mythos-Sphere—and now, here it is!
